Burlington, Vermont - October 21, 2004
Red Sox mania swept over Vermont's Queen City in dramatic fashion Thurday morning. The win led to a major riot at the University of Vermont.
More than a thousand people gathered at Red Stone Campus. The unruly crowd set fires, toppled light poles and fences, and even tipped a van onto its side.
Police from six different agencies responded to the scene. Officers were forced to use pepper spray and rubber-pellet guns to disperse the crowd. It took police nearly three hours to control the rioters.
No serious injuries were reported. Damage is extensive.
